Fairfield 75, St. Peter’s 68
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP)—Greg Nero scored a team-high 20 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds, leading Fairfield to a 75-68 win over St. Peter’s Thursday night.
Fairfield (12-6, 5-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) shot 62 percent from 3-point range, making 13 of 21 from behind the arc. Mike Evanovich hit five 3-pointers for the Stags, accounting for all 15 of his points.
St. Peter’s (5-12, 2-5 MAAC) had four players score in double figures. Ryan Bacon led the Peacocks with 20 points, while Wesley Jenkins had 16, Nick Leon had 14 and Akeem Gooding added 10 off the bench.
Fairfield never trailed, although the game was tied three times in the opening six minutes. With the score tied at 9, Herbie Allen hit a 3-point shot to put the Stags in front for good. They built the lead to 11 toward the end of the first half and led by seven at the break.
