Johnson leads Nevada past Boise State 77-63

RENO, Nev. (AP)—Armon Johnson scored 25 points and Luke Babbitt added 18 points and 10 rebounds to help Nevada hold off Boise State 77-63 Thursday night.

The Wolf Pack (10-7, 3-1 Western Athletic Conference) used a 9-0 run in the final six minutes to break open the game.

Anthony Thomas hit a 3-pointer for Boise State (12-4, 3-1) to cut Nevada’s lead to 59-54 with 6:23 to go. Lyndale Burleson answered with a 3-pointer for Nevada to start the Wolf Pack’s run that extended the lead to 14 points.

LaShard Anderson scored 14 points and Thomas added 13 to lead the Broncos, who had won six straight games.

Nevada built a 49-33 lead with 14:21 to go in the second half as Babbitt went the length of the floor for a layup. Johnson was instrumental in building Nevada’s big lead, scoring eight points in the first five minutes of the second half.

Nevada, which led the entire first half, took a 31-27 lead at halftime.

The Wolf Pack went on a 10-0 run to take its biggest lead of the opening half at 27-11. Johnson scored five points in the run.

Boise State, though, then went on a 10-0 run of its own to cut the Nevada lead to 27-21. Thomas and Paul Noonan each had 3-pointers in the run.
