Sacred Heart beats Bryant 73-64
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP)—Joey Henley scored 18 points to pace Sacred Heart in a 73-64 win over Bryant on Wednesday night.
Chauncey Hardy added 13 for the Pioneers (6-10, 3-3 Northeast Conference).
Sacred Heart led by 18 with 2:20 left in the first half, and had a 41-23 halftime edge. Bryant (2-15) narrowed the lead to 43-37 on Chris Birrell’s fast-break layup early in the second half, but the Pioneers rebuilt the lead to 11 on a layup and 3-pointer from Hardy in a span of 49 seconds.
The Pioneers shot 53.1 percent from the floor to the Bulldogs 39.2 percent.
Cecil Gresham led Bryant with 17 points, Birrell added 15 and Nick Pontes had 11.
Ryan Litke and Corey Hassan added 10 points each for Sacred Heart.
The Bulldogs are in the first year of a four-year transition to Division I and will compete in the Northeast Conference in 2012.
