Cincinnati rallies to beat Rutgers 71-59
CINCINNATI (AP)—Deonta Vaughn and Mike Williams led Cincinnati’s comeback from a 10-minute shooting drought and a 16-point deficit Wednesday night, helping the Bearcats beat Rutgers 71-59 for a slump-busting victory.
The Bearcats (11-6, 1-3) had lost nine straight Big East games, failing to get a league victory since last Feb. 20. They overcame a grim first half to finally end the streak, with Vaughn and Williams combining for 25 straight points during the comeback. Vaughn finished with 24 points, and Williams matched his career high with 20.
Anthony Farmer scored 12 points for Rutgers (9-9, 0-5), which has lost its last six games overall and 14 of its last 15 Big East games since the end of last season.
Cincinnati missed 17 consecutive shots and went 9 minutes, 25 seconds without a field goal in the first half, when Rutgers pulled ahead 29-13. Cincinnati opened the second half with a 21-4 spurt that featured nine points by Vaughn and put the Bearcats ahead to stay 50-40.
