CS Bakersfield beats San Jose State 61-55

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP)—Alex Johnson scored 13 points and hit a trio of timely 3-pointers to lead Cal State Bakersfield past San Jose State 61-55 Monday.

Bakersfield (5-12) led by 12 at halftime and withstood a late run from San Jose State, which scored only five first-half field goals but shot 52 percent in the second half.

DaShawn Wright led San Jose State (7-8) with 17 points and Robert Owens added 12.

Santwon Latunde had 12 points and nine rebounds for Bakersfield, which led 29-17 at halftime and withstood several San Jose State rallies.

The Spartans mounted a 6-0 run to pull within 44-38 midway through the second half, but Johnson answered with a 3 with 8:57 left.

The lead was whittled back to six with 2:58 left before Bakersfield scored five straight points.
