Chattanooga defeats The Citadel 76-70
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—Stephen McDowell scored 27 points to help Chattanooga hold off The Citadel 76-70 on Monday night.
Stephen McDowell, who leads the Moccasins (6-10, 2-3 Southern Conference) in scoring, 3-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage, was 7 of 14 from the 3-point line.
McDowell’s final 3-pointer gave Chattanooga a 71-65 lead before Austin Dahn hit a 3-pointer to cut the margin to 71-68 with 2:01 remaining.
Keyron Sheard’s free throw stretched the lead to 72-68 with 34.7 seconds left before McDowell sealed it with two free throws with 17.6 seconds to go.
Chattanooga has won the past 10 meetings with The Citadel (7-9, 2-3).
Kevin Goffney scored 14 points and Nicchaeus Doaks and Ty Patterson added 11 points each for Chattanooga.
Zach Urbanus scored 24 points and Demetrius had 15 points and 14 rebounds for The Citadel.
