Fairfield holds off Canisius, 63-60
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Yorel Hawkins scored 15 points and Greg Nero added 14 Sunday to lead Fairfield to a 63-60 win over Canisius.
Canisius(5-11, 0-6 MAAC) had an opportunity to win it, but Elton Frazier missed a 3-point shot with 10 seconds left and Nero slammed the ball at the buzzer to finish the game.
Frank Turner led Canisius with 14 points. Greg Logins and Julius Coles each added 13, and Frazier had 11 for the Golden Griffins, who have lost four in a row.
Jonathan Han added 12 points and Herbie Allen had 11 for the Stags (11-6, 4-2 MAAC), who have won three straight.
Fairfield took a 31-28 lead into halftime after hitting 16 of 17 first-half free throws.
The Stags finished the game 27-of-34 from the line, while Canisius was 4-of-11. Logins and Robert Goldsberry fouled out for Canisius.
