MVSU beats Alabama A&M 68-62

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP)—Julius Cheeks scored 17 points to lead Mississippi Valley State to a 68-62 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday night for its first win of the season.

MVSU opened the game with a 9-0 run and led Alabama A&M 30-23 at halftime. The Delta Devils (1-14, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) knocked down six 3-pointers in the first half, and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds in the game en route to victory.

The Bulldogs (3-8, 1-2) pulled within three points with just over two minutes to play, but they would get no closer.

Trant Simpson led the Bulldogs with 20 points, while Cornelius Hester and John Smith added 10 apiece.
