Drexel holds off Georgia St. 53-50
ATLANTA (AP)—Evan Neisler’s layup put Drexel ahead for good with 2:10 left and the Dragons defense held Georgia State without a field goal for the rest of the game to seal a 53-50 win on Saturday.
Drexel, who had a seven-point halftime lead, trailed 48-46 with 3:54 left after Dante Curry’s layup. But Neisler’s layup with just over two minutes remaining capped a 5-1 Drexel run in which the forward scored all the points to give the Dragon’s a 51-49 lead.
Kenny Tribbett hit two free throws with 2:08 left to make it 53-49, and the Dragons held the Panthers to just one free throw the rest of the way.
Neisler led the Dragons (6-8, 2-3 Colonial Athletic Association) with 18 points and two blocks, Leon Spencer scored 12 and Gerald Coles added 11.
Joe Dukes had 13 points, and was the only player to score in double figures for the Panthers (4-12, 2-3).
