Jacksonville routs Mercer 80-59
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Ayron Hardy scored 18 points and Ben Smith added 17 to lead Jacksonville to an 80-59 victory over Mercer on Friday night.
The Dolphins (5-8, 4-1 Atlantic Sun Conference) never trailed, jumping out to a 15-4 lead as Smith made a pair of 3-pointers and a layup. Jacksonville opened the second half with a 19-5 spurt.
The Bears (7-8, 1-3) have now lost six of their last seven games after a 6-2 start in which they knocked off Alabama and Auburn on the road.
Mercer shot only 30.3 percent for the game (17 of 56), compared to Jacksonville’s 53.3 percent (32 of 60).
James Florence scored 20 points to pace Mercer and Daniel Emerson added 16.
Hardy, who was 7-for-9 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line, has scored in double figures in his last three games. Aric Brooks added 13 points for Jacksonville and Travis Cohn had 10.
