The Citadel beats Georgia Southern 84-75
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—Demetrius Nelson scored 23 points to help lead The Citadel to an 84-75 win over Georgia Southern on Thursday night.
Bryan Streeter also added 15 points and Cameron Wells had 13 for the Bulldogs (7-7, 2-1 Southern Conference).
Julian Allen scored 20 points to lead the Eagles (4-7, 2-1), Antonio Hanson added 17 and Willie Powers chipped in with 14.
The Citadel hit one more shot than Georgia Southern from the field—27 of 63 compared to 26 of 63—and also went 24-for-34 on free throws. The Eagles shot 17-for-28 from the line.
After trailing 41-31 at the break, the Eagles pulled within 74-69 on Hanson’s jumper with just under one minute left. But the Bulldogs hit 10 free throws during the game’s last 44 seconds for a 10-6 run that sealed the win.
