Hofstra beats Delaware 66-61

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP)—Cornelius Vines scored a career-high 23 points to lead Hofstra to a 66-61 victory over Delaware on Wednesday night.

Vines, a junior college transfer who scored 21 points twice this season, scored 12 of the Pride’s last 20 points of the game, including two free throws with 1:31 left that gave them the lead for good at 53-51.

Vines made two more free throws with 9.6 seconds left after the Blue Hens pulled to 60-58.

Charles Jenkins added 18 points on 4-for-24 shooting from the field for Hofstra (10-5, 2-2 Colonial Athletic Association), which had lost two straight and four of five.

Brian Johnson had 19 points for Delaware (7-9, 1-3), which had won two of three, while Marc Egerson added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Blue Hens took a 39-38 lead on a 3 by Johnson with 10:14 to play. There were six lead changes and four ties the rest of the game.
