Troy holds off William Carey 80-68
TROY, Ala. (AP)—Josh Williams scored a career-high 14 points to lead Troy to an 80-68 victory over William Carey on Monday night.
Tom Jervis had 10 rebounds and blocked seven shots for the Trojans (7-9), who improved to 5-1 at home this season.
William Carey (5-6), an NAIA program, cut Troy’s lead to 53-49 on Jeremey Jackson’s layup with 14:38 remaining in the game, but the Trojans pushed their lead to 62-51 with 11:53 left.
The Crusaders chopped the lead to 62-54 on Marcus Spann’s 3-pointer with 10:07 left, but Williams countered with a 3-pointer for a 65-54 advantage with 9:30 remaining.
Brandon Hazzard and Michael Vogler scored 13 points each and Travis Lee added 11 points for Troy.
Dexter Middleton scored 18 points and had eight rebounds for William Carey. Spann added 11 points and Brandon Lee scored 10.
