Monmouth holds off Cent. Connecticut
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP)—Travis Taylor scored 11 points off the bench and Monmouth closed the game with a 12-3 run to hold off Central Connecticut State 58-47 Monday night.
Alex Nunner and R.J. Rutledge scored 10 points apiece for Monmouth (4-12, 2-2 Northeast Conference), which has won consecutive games for the first time this season.
Shemik Thompson scored 12 points to lead Central Connecticut State (5-8, 1-2).
Monmouth led 46-44 with 6:22 left after a layup by Thompson, before Yaniv Simpson made a 3-pointer to start Monmouth’s run.
Thompson scored the Blue Devils’ last points on a 3-pointer with 4:54 left in the game. Nunner made four free throws in the final minute for Monmouth.
Monmouth finished 7-for-16 from 3-point range and held the Blue Devils to 1-for-13 from behind the arc.
