Hot-shooting Portland downs Seattle 71-67
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP)—Robin Smuelders had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead Portland to a 71-67 victory over Seattle on Sunday.
Smuelders hit 7-of-8 field-goal attempts and was 8-of-9 from the foul line. Ethan Niedermeyer added four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for the Pilots (9-6).
Austen Powers led Seattle (8-6) with 28 points and Chris Gweth added 23.
The Redhawks trailed 30-21 at the half, but rallied to take a 45-43 on Gweth’s 3-pointer with nine minutes left. The Pilots, however, regained command and hit 10 free throws in the final 66 seconds to seal the win.
Gweth and Powers combined to shoot 10-of-15 from 3-point range.
Portland shot 55 percent from the floor, and limited Seattle to a season-low 21 rebounds.
