New Hampshire beats Santa Clara 58-54
DURHAM, N.H. (AP)—Alvin Abreu scored a career-high 28 points, lifting the University of New Hampshire to a 58-54 victory over Santa Clara on Sunday.
Abreu had a career-high seven 3-pointers and was perfect from behind the arc, setting a school record for most treys in a game without a miss.
Tyrece Gibbs added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Wildcats.
New Hampshire (4-7) trailed 23-22 at the half, but went on a 13-4 run to take a 35-27 ead at 16:29.
A Santa Clara free throw made it a two-point game, but Dane DiLiegro’s bucket made it 56-52 with 16 seconds left. The Broncos added a layup with eight-tenths of a second on the clock and fouled Abreu, who hit both free throws to seal the victory.
Marc Trasolini led Santa Clara (7-9) with 24 points and 10 boards. DiLiegro added five points and seven rebounds for the Broncos.
