Troy defeats Florida International 69-62
TROY, Ala. (AP)—Brandon Hazzard scored 16 points and Troy defeated Florida International 69-62 on Saturday night.
Florida International (5-11, 0-3 Sun Belt Conference) led until 6:01 left in the first half when Troy’s Antywan Jones hit two free throws to tie the game at 18-18. With 1:50 left to play in the half, Hazzard hit a jump shot to give the Trojans (6-9, 2-2) a 28-27 lead—an advantage the Golden Panthers wouldn’t overcome.
Mario Telfair added 14 points for the Trojans, Richard Delk chipped in 11, Tom Jervis scored 10. Michael Vogler had four steals for Troy.
Florida International was led by Alex Galindo with 14 points, Marlon Bright with 11 points and Freddy Asprilla with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Troy shot 94.7 percent from the free-throw line (18 of 19).
