Princeton holds off UNC-Greensboro 65-55
PRINCETON, N.J. (AP)—Dan Mavraides scored a career-high 17 points as Princeton held on for a 65-55 win over North Carolina-Greensboro on Saturday.
Doug Davis added 15 points and Kareem Maddox finished with 10 for the Tigers (3-8), while Pawel Buczak pulled down 10 rebounds as Princeton snapped a six-game losing streak.
Ben Stywal had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Spartans (1-10), while Mikko Koivisto had 11 points and Daniel Oliver added 10.
Princeton led for most of the game and appeared poised for an easy win, but UNC-Greensboro made a late rally and cut the lead to 54-51 when Koivisto hit two free throws with 1:08 left. However, he then immediately fouled Mavraides, who made both shots.
Princeton then sealed the win by making 9-of-10 free throws in the final 67 seconds.
