Binghamton beats Maine 70-62
ORONO, Maine (AP)—Binghamton improved to 8-4 Saturday as the Bearcats cruised past Maine 70-62 in the America East opener for both teams. It was the fifth consecutive loss for Maine (5-9).
Binghamton was led by junior guard D.J. Rivera, who scored 24 as he connected on 5 of 9 shots from 3-point territory. Rivera came into the game leading America East with 21.2 points per game.
Maine scorers were led by freshman guard Gerald McLemore with 16 and junior guard Junior Bernal with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
The Black Bears were hurt by poor foul shooting, as they hit only 17 of their 32 attempts for 53.1 percent. Binghamton held a commanding lead through much of the game, ending the half with a 38-27 lead over the Black Bears.
Both teams’ next opponent will be Stony Brook, with Binghamton’s home game Monday and Maine playing on the road Thursday.
