Georgia Southern defeats Chattanooga 78-74
STATESBORO, Ga. (AP)—Antonio Hanson scored 22 points as Georgia Southern defeated Chattanooga 78-74 on Saturday night.
Hanson shot 7-for-14 from the field, including 6-for-12 from 3-point range for the Eagles (4-6, 2-0 Southern Conference). Willie Powers added 17 points and five assists, and Trumaine Pearson finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Stephen McDowell and Keyron Sheard each scored 17 points the Mocs (4-9, 0-2 Southern). Kevin Goffney and Nicchaeus Doaks scored 13 points apiece.
Powers’ jumper with 1:19 remaining in the second half broke a 72-72 tie. Sheard missed two free throws and a 3-point attempt with under a minute remaining, and Hanson made two free throws to extend Georgia Southern’s lead to 76-72.
Doaks responded with a jumper to cut the lead to two, but Marshall made two free throws with five-seconds remaining to secure the win.
