IUPUI outlasts Southern Utah 59-54

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Alex Young scored 14 points and IUPUI outlasted Southern Utah for a 59-54 victory Friday night in the Summit League.

Leroy Nobles and Robert Glenn chipped in 13 points each for the Jaguars (9-5, 2-1), who shot 21-of-51 from the field including 4-of-17 from beyond the arc.

Davis Baker scored 17 to lead the Thunderbirds (4-11, 2-2), who shot 21-of-45 overall including 3-of-11 from three-point range. Jake Nielson had 12, Tyler Quinney 11 and John Clifford 10.

The first half belonged to Southern Utah until 5:57 left, when Nobles hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 22-22 and the Jaguars then went on a 12-3 run to take a 34-25 lead at the break.

The Thunderbirds led only once more at 41-42 and then got no closer than three with 2:07 left, after which IUPUI’s John Ashworth hit a key 3-pointer and the Jaguars wrapped up the win with free throws.
