Hampton holds off Yale 58-56
HAMPTON, Va. (AP)—Christopher Tolson scored 21 points to lead Hampton to a 58-56 victory over Yale on Tuesday night.
Kwame Morgan added 14 points and Michael Freeman scored 12 points as the Pirates (6-6), snapped a three-game losing streak.
The score was tied at 50-all when Tolson hit a 3-pointer and two free throws to give Hampton a 55-50 advantage with 4:15 remaining in the game.
Ross Morin’s jumper cut the lead to 55-52 but Tolson hit another 3-pointer for a 58-52 advantage with 3:23 left.
The Pirates wouldn’t score again but held on for the win.
Morin led Yale (2-8) with 17 points. Alex Zampier added 15 points and Travis Pinick scored 10 points.
Hampton went 14 of 17 from the free-throw line.
Theo Smalling led Hampton with 12 rebounds.
