Loyola of Chicago beats Alcorn St. 88-53
CHICAGO (AP)—Freshman Walt Gibler had 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Loyola of Chicago to an 88-53 rout of Alcorn State on Tuesday night.
Gibler notched career highs in both points and rebounds in Loyola’s fourth straight win. He got help from Marcus Thomas with 14 points, Geoff McCammon with 10 points and Darrin Williams with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Loyola (8-5) built a 17-6 lead halfway through the first period and expanded it to 40-24 at halftime.
The Ramblers shot 52 percent from the field, sinking 36-of-69 attempts, including a season-high 10 3-pointers in 24 tries. They also outrebounded the Braves 48-25, with a 17-6 edge in offensive rebounds.
Troy Jackson led Alcorn State (2-11) with 12 points. JaMarkus Holt and Jonathan Boyd, with 11 each, were also in double figures for the Braves.
