Delaware holds off Toledo 74-63

NEWARK, Del. (AP)—Jawan Carter scored 24 points and Marc Egerson added 20 to lead Delaware to a 74-63 victory over Toledo on Tuesday night.

Carter, a first-year transfer from Saint Joseph’s (Pa.), scored 16 first-half points as the Blue Hens (6-7) built a 37-25 halftime lead. Carter was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final 1:33 after the Rockets (2-10) closed to 65-61.

Carter has scored 20-plus points in five of the past six games for the Blue Hens, who won for only the second time in six home games this season.

Delaware hit a season-high 12 3-pointers (12 of 22) as Carter and Egerson combined to go 8 of 10 from beyond the arc.

Toledo, which lost its fifth straight game, closed to 67-63 with 1:15 remaining in the game. But Egerson sank a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left to spark a 7-0, game-ending run for Delaware.
