American ends Manhattan’s 3-game win streak
NEW YORK (AP)—Garrison Carr scored 21 points, Brian Gilmore had 17 and American never trailed in a 60-48 victory over Manhattan on Monday night.
Derrick Mercer added eight points and Jordan Nichols had six points and 10 rebounds for the visiting Eagles (6-6).
Jamel Ferguson scored 11 points and Chris Smith had eight for the Jaspers (7-4), whose three-game winning streak ended.
American shot 45.7 percent from the floor and held Manhattan to just 30.5 percent shooting. The Eagles were 8-of-17 from 3-point range to just 5-of-20 for the Jaspers.
Carr and Gilmore each scored nine points in helping American to a 32-20 lead at halftime. Carr’s 3-pointer extended it to 44-30 with 14:13 left in the game.
Brandon Adams converted a three-point play to cut the margin to 47-41 with 10:07 to go, but the Jaspers came no closer.
