Virginia Tech defeats Charleston Southern 75-66
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—A.D. Vassallo and Malcolm Delaney each scored 16 points in Virginia Tech’s 75-66 win over Charleston Southern on Monday night.
Charleston Southern (5-6) led 23-15 with 10:36 left in the first half, before Virginia Tech (9-4) scored 10 unanswered points to take over the lead. Jeff Allen hit two free throws to give the Hokies a 25-23 lead with 7:12 left in the half. The Buccaneers reclaimed the lead, 27-25, on two free throws by Giedrius Knysas two minutes later, but the Hokies went on a 12-1 run stretching into the second half, and wouldn’t trail again.
Virginia Tech had eight steals, while the Buccaneers committed 12 turnovers.
J.T. Thompson added 15 points and Allen had 11 for the Hokies.
Jamarco Warren scored 22 points, with 12 coming on 3-pointers for Charleston Southern. The Buccaneers shot 47.8 percent from 3-point range (11 of 23).
