SIU-Edwardsville beats UMKC 77-71
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Freshman Aaron Garriott came off the bench to score a career-high 24 points in lifting Southern Illinois-Edwardsville to a 77-71 non-conference victory over Missouri-Kansas City Sunday.
The victory ended a seven-game losing streak for the Cougars (3-11).
Garriott, who came into the game averaging 7.7, was eight-of-eight from the field, three-of-three from three-point range and five-of-five at the free throw line. He also captured four rebounds and dished out four assists.
Dane Brumagin had a season-high 34 points for the Kangaroos (5-10). He was followed by Spencer Johnson with 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
The Cougars only trailed once in the game. Their biggest lead was nine in the first half.
Besides the 24 points by Garriott, Nikola Bundalo added 13 and Barry Wellington 12.
The Cougars did not miss a free throw in 11 attempts and were 31-of-47 from the floor for 66 percent.
