Drexel holds on for 76-70 win over Rider
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP)—Tramayne Hawthorne scored 21 points as Drexel held off Rider for 76-70 win on Saturday.
Evan Neisler added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Dragons (3-6), while Gerald Colds added 13 points. Justin Robinson had 20 points to lead the Broncs (6-5), while Novar Gadson came off the bench to add 15 points and Ryan Thompson scored 12.
The teams were tied at 34-34 at the break, but Drexel appeared to take command with a 19-5 run midway through the second half. Rider, though, rallied late and eventually cut the lead to 70-65 with 38 seconds left.
However, the Broncs would not get any closer, and the Dragons sealed the win by making 8-of-10 free throws over the final 71 seconds.
Drexel also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Rider 42-30.
