Liberty beats South Carolina-Upstate 77-64

LAS VEGAS (AP)—Anthony Smith scored 21 points to lead Liberty to a 77-64 victory over South Carolina- Upstate in the fifth-place game of the Las Vegas Classic on Tuesday.

Seth Curry was 5-of-7 from 3-point range and added 18 points for the Flames (9-4), who took control with a 23-6 run in the second half. Johnny Stephene was 4-of-4 from the field and had 14 points and four assists for Liberty.

Smith, who was 7-of-8 from the field, had seven rebounds and four assists as Liberty shot 59 percent (24-of-41) from the field. The Flames had 12 2-point field goals and the same number of 3s.

Bobby Davis led the Spartans (1-10) with 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, while Josh Chavis had 11 points and Nick Schneiders 10.

The Spartans rallied from a 9-point deficit to take a 36-35 halftime lead. Liberty’s big run gave its largest lead, 69-47 with 5:06 left.
