South Dakota State stuns Iowa State 65-58
AMES, Iowa (AP)—Clint Sargent had 18 points and 10 rebounds and South Dakota State stunned Iowa State 65-58 Tuesday night, picking up one of the biggest wins in school history.
Anthony Cordova added 17 points for the Jackrabbits (6-8), who are in their first year as active members of Division I.
The victory snapped South Dakota State’s 17-game road losing streak dating back to last season.
Lucca Staiger hit back-to-back 3s to bring Iowa State (7-4) within 59-56, and Craig Brackins hit two free throws that made it 60-58 with 35.5 seconds left. But Kai Williams broke through Iowa State’s press for a dunk that sealed the win.
South Dakota State was down two at halftime, but it went on a 9-2 run midway through the second half to go up 53-44. Garrett Callahan drove through traffic for a layup, and Sargent’s 3 put the Jackrabbits up by nine with 7:42 left.
Brackins had 18 points to lead Iowa State, which has lost three of four.
