Iona beats Hofstra 67-64
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP)—Jonathan Huffman hit a 3-pointer with 4.6 seconds to play and Iona scored the final seven points of the game in a 67-64 victory over Hofstra on Tuesday night.
Charles Jenkins made one of two free throws with 1:01 to play to give Hofstra a 64-60 lead.
Devon Clarke’s layup with 50 seconds to go brought the Gaels within two and the 7-foot Huffman, who finished with five points, hit the go-ahead 3 from the top of the key. Clarke added two free throws with 1.1 seconds left.
Cornelius Vines of Hofstra heaved a shot from midcourt at the buzzer and it hit the backboard and circled the rim before falling off.
Jermel Jenkins had 14 points to lead Iona (5-7), which had lost two straight, while Clarke had 11 points and Scott Machado 10.
Charles Jenkins had 19 points for the Pride (8-3), who have lost two straight, and Tony Dennison added 12.
