UC Irvine beats Norfolk St. 66-49 with late run
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)—Kevin Bland scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds to lead California-Irvine over Norfolk State 66-49 on Monday in the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off Tourney.
Michael Hunter led UC-Irvine (2-9) with 19 points and Derrick Strings added 10.
Norfolk State (1-9) was led by Corey Lyons with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
UC-Irvine led 21-20 at halftime in a game that saw a half-dozen ties and six lead changes. Tied at 41 with 7:10 left in the game, the Anteaters broke away on a 12-0 run to take command with a 56-44 lead.
Norfolk State suffered from cold shooting. The Spartans hit of 2-of-20 attempts from three-point range and shot just under 30 percent from the field overall.
