E. Washington beats Evergreen St. 90-87
CHENEY, Wash. (AP)—Brandon Moore scored 22 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and hit four key foul shots down the stretch to lift Eastern Washington past Evergreen State College 90-87 in a nonconference game on Monday night.
Trailing 89-87 in the closing seconds, the Geoducks (7-3)—led by 36 points from Nathan Menefee—had a chance to tie, but John Levi’s driving layup rolled off the rim, helping the Eagles (7-5) snap a three-game losing streak.
Benny Valentine added 16 points for Eastern Washington in a game that featured 27 lead changes and 12 ties. Mark Dunn had 13 points and Milan Stanojevic 11.
Menefee, averaging 23.3 points per game, hit 12-of-16 from the floor for 28 points in the first half. But EWU held the 5-foot-11 junior guard scoreless in the final 12 minutes.
Nick Moore had 19 points and Steve Trotter 17 for the Geoducks.
