Evansville beats N. Carolina A&T 73-66
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP)—Shy Ely scored 21 points Saturday night, hitting four straight free throws in the final two minutes to preserve Evansville’s 73-66 victory over North Carolina A&T.
Two nights after a loss to No. 1-ranked North Carolina, the Purple Aces (8-2) took control with a 14-0 run early in the second half, then held off the Aggies (5-6) in the closing minutes.
Jason Holsinger, who finished with 20 points, hit two of his six 3-pointers during the big run that gave Evansville a 56-41 lead. A&T broke the streak with a 3-pointer by Dwane Joshua and pulled within 63-60 on a dunk by Ed Jones before Ely hit the first two of his clinching free throws.
Ely finished with 10 rebounds for the Aces. Nate Garner added 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Joshua and Jones led the Aggies with 16 points each.
