Hartford wins at Sacred Heart 59-55
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP)—Freshman Andres Torres scored 15 points in his first start to lead Hartford to a 59-55 victory over Sacred Heart Sunday afternoon.
Torres stepped into the Hawks lineup for leading scorer Joe Zeglinski, who was sidelined with an ankle injury.
Morgan Sabia added 14 points and Anthony Minor had 10 for Hartford (4-7), which won for the first time on the road this season.
Senior Ryon Howard scored 11 points to lead Sacred Heart, which saw its three-game winning streak snapped. Joey Henley added 10 points for the Pioneers, including the 1,000th of his career.
Torres helped the Hawks to an early 12-point lead with a dozen first-half points.
Sacred Heart (3-4) slowly chipped away and pulled even at 50-50 on jumper by Howard with 5:12 left in the game.
But the Pioneers couldn’t overcome 20 turnovers and 5-for-26 shooting from 3-point range.
A pair of free throws by Hartford senior Jaret von Rosenberg in the closing seconds iced the game for the Hawks.
