Iona beats St. Francis, Pa. 78-61
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP)—Kashif Pratt scored 22 points and Iona led all the way in a 78-61 victory over St. Francis, Pa. on Sunday.
Jonathan Huffman added 13 points for the Gaels (4-5), while Scott Machado had 12 and Trinity Fields 11.
Mislav Jukic scored 18 points and Cale Nelson had 14 for the Red Flash (4-6).
Both teams played without their leading scorer/rebounder. Junior Devin Sweetney, averaging 14.4 points and 7.9 rebounds for St. Francis, missed his first game after breaking his hand. Senior Gary Springer, averaging 12.7 points and 6.0 rebounds for Iona, sat out his third straight game with an ankle injury.
The Gaels took an 11-1 lead and held the Red Flash without a field goal for the first 9:09 on the way to a 36-18 halftime lead.
Iona led by as much as 47-22 after Alejo Rodriguez converted a free throw 3:53 into the second half.
