Ewing leads Wyoming to win over Northern Iowa
CASPER, Wyo. (AP)—Brandon Ewing scored 22 points as Wyoming held off Northern Iowa 74-65 Saturday in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Wyoming Shootout.
Northern Iowa led 61-60 with 3:27 left, but the Cowboys (7-1) got 12 straight free throws—eight by Ewing—to pull out the win.
Tyson Johnson finished with 18 points, with Afam Muojeke adding 15 points for Wyoming.
Jordan Eglseder, a 7-foot-1 center, led all scorers for the Panthers with 31 points. Eglseder was 13-of-22 from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds for Northern Iowa (5-5).
While Wyoming had problems stopping Eglseder for much of the game, the Cowboys had three straight stops to get some breathing room.
Eglseder had just two points in the final seven minutes.
The Cowboys made 19 of 24 free throws while the Panthers made 13 of 14.
