McNeese State defeats Louisiana-Monroe 66-57
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP)—P.J. Alawoya scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half and grabbed nine rebounds to lead McNeese State to a 66-57 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
The Cowboys (4-3) defeated the Warhawks (2-6) for the second time this season. McNeese State won 82-63 on Nov. 20 at Louisiana-Monroe.
Both teams struggled from the field to begin the game, but McNeese State built a 21-6 lead with 5:30 left in the first half. The Warhawks rallied to trail 27-16 at halftime.
McNeese State made 17 of 27 shots in the second half (63 percent).
Stephan Martin and Patrick Richard added 12 points apiece for the Cowboys.
The Warhawks have lost four straight games and have not won a road game since February.
Rudy Turner led Louisiana-Monroe with 19 points while Lawrence Gilbert had his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
