Louisiana Tech tops Louisiana-Monroe 69-57
RUSTON, La. (AP)—Magnum Rolle had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead Louisiana Tech past Louisiana-Monroe 69-57 on Wednesday night.
As the schools, separated by only 30 miles, renewed their rivalry after an 18-year hiatus, the Bulldogs (4-4) jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first six minutes.
The Warhawks (2-5) used a 9-2 run in the final four minutes of the half to trail 32-29 at halftime.
Louisiana Tech had a nine-point lead in the second half, but Louisiana-Monroe pulled within one point, 52-51, with just over six minutes remaining. The Warhawks then made only 2 of 12 shots to close out the game.
Kyle Gibson added 16 points for the Bulldogs and Kenneth Cooper had 13 points and seven rebounds.
Lawrence Gilbert, a Miami transfer playing in his first game for Louisiana-Monroe, scored 14 points. Malcolm Thomas added 11 and Rudy Turner had 10.
