Iona beats Long Island U. 68-61
NEW YORK (AP)—Kashif Pratt had 12 points and Iona snapped a four-game losing streak with a 68-61 victory over Long Island University on Wednesday night.
Scott Machado and Devon Clarke each added 11 points for the Gaels (3-5), who played their second game without Gary Springer, their leading scorer (12.7) and rebounder (6.0). The senior injured his ankle in a loss to Marist last week.
Kyle Johnson had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Julian Boyd added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Blackbirds (2-5), who finished with a 47-31 rebound advantage.
LIU led 53-51 with 4 minutes to play. Jamal Jenkins made two free throws that tied the game and started Iona’s run that gave the Gaels a 63-53 lead on a layup by Machado with 1:30 to go.
Both teams struggled from 3-point range with Iona finishing 6-for-26 while the Blackbirds were 4-of-21.
