Drake rallies to beat Iowa State 66-63
AMES, Iowa (AP)—Josh Young scored 19 points and Craig Stanley hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:04 left, lifting Drake to a 66-63 victory over Iowa State on Tuesday night.
Jonathan Cox added 14 points and 14 rebounds and Adam Templeton scored 13 for the Bulldogs (7-2), who beat Iowa State for the third straight time. Drake had not done that since winning four in a row from 1973-77.
Lucca Staiger led Iowa State (6-2) with 24 points on eight 3-pointers, while Bryan Petersen scored 11 and Craig Brackins 10.
Drake trailed by 12 points midway through the second half and was down 60-50 with 8 minutes left. But Iowa State made only one basket the rest of the way and the Bulldogs rallied.
Stanley’s 3 from the right corner gave Drake its first lead at 64-62. Brackins’ free throw drew the Cyclones to within a point, but Stanley and Templeton each made a free throw to wrap it up.
