Indiana St. picks up first win, beats Lamar 68-66
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP)—Rashad Reed hit a short jumper with less than a second to go to lift Indiana State past Lamar 68-66 in the Marques Maybin Classic.
Lamar had tied the game moments earlier on a pair of free throws by Kenny Dawkins, but Reed raced down the floor and put up a floater from about six feet out that rattled in to give the Sycamores (1-6) their first win of the season.
The jumper capped a 14-4, game-ending run by Indiana State. Reed and Aaron Carter led the Sycamores with 15 points each and Jay Tunnell added 13 points.
Jay Brown led Lamar (6-2) with 16 points and eight rebounds and Dawkins had 13 points for the Cardinals, who led 62-54 with 7 minutes to go but couldn’t hold on.
Tunnell hit one of two free throws to push the Indiana State lead to two before Dawkins tied it at 66 with 9.8 seconds remaining, setting up Reed’s game-winner.
