Hofstra defeats Towson 90-79
TOWSON, Md. (AP)—Charles Jenkins scored 24 points and Cornelius Vines added 21 points to lead Hofstra to a 90-79 win over Towson on Saturday night in the conference opener for both teams.
Greg Washington added 11 points and 10 rebounds, including five unanswered points late, helping the Pride (6-1, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association) pull away for their sixth straight victory.
Josh Thornton scored 20 points for Hofstra. Hairston scored 16 points and Troy Franklin added 13 points and nine assists for Towson, which missed 13 of its 29 free throws.
A pair of free throws by Thornton got the Tigers within 71-70 with 7:26 remaining, but Hofstra scored the next seven points to go ahead 78-70. Two foul shots made by Miklos Szabo were followed by five straight points by Washington, who hit the first of two free throws that was followed by a layup and a short jumper.
