Radford defeats Winthrop 73-52
RADFORD, Va. (AP)—Artsiom Parakhouski scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help Radford snap a 12-game losing streak to beat Winthrop 73-52 on Saturday night.
Radford (3-4, 1-1 Big South Conference) had not defeated its league rival since Jan. 3, 2003. The Highlanders took a 38-34 lead at halftime, then scored nearly twice as many points as Winthrop (1-7, 0-2) in the second half.
While the Eagles shot 55.6 percent in the first half (55.6 percent), they managed only 18.5 percent in the second (5 of 27).
Radford shot 50 percent for the game (27 of 54).
Parakhouski made all but two of his shots, shooting 11 of 12 from the field and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line.
Kenny Thomas added 20 points and Martell McDuffy had 10 points for the Highlanders.
Charles Corbin, the only Winthrop player scoring in double figures, had 11 points.
