Lamar beats Ohio 76-67
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP)—Kenny Dawkins scored 19 points, including a 3-pointer to start a decisive run in the second half, to lead Lamar to a 76-67 victory over Ohio on Saturday.
Tristan Worrell scored 21 points and Brandon McThay added 18 for the Cardinals (6-1), who went ahead for good when Dawkins drilled a 30-foot 3-pointer to give Lamar a 44-41 lead with 16:18 to play. The shot keyed an 18-7 run over the next eight minutes that pushed Lamar’s advantage to 59-48 with 8:20 to go.
The Bobcats (3-2) would cut the lead to 70-64 with 59 seconds left, but Lamar made its free throws down the stretch to bounce back from a 42-point loss at Kentucky on Wednesday.
Jerome Tillman had 25 points for Ohio and Justin Orr scored 19, but the Bobcats fell behind early and struggled to catch up. Lamar shot 48 percent from the field and turned it over just five times in the second half.
