Morgan State defeats Coppin State 62-48
BALTIMORE (AP)—Reggie Holmes scored 19 points and Morgan State snapped a four-game losing streak in a 62-48 victory over Coppin State in the conference opener for both teams on Saturday.
Rogers Barnes had 12 points and Kevin Thompson added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Morgan State (3-6, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), which trailed only twice in the game. Jordan Lee scored 13 points and Tywain McKee added 10 for the Eagles (1-5, 0-1), who have lost four straight games and do not play a home game until Jan. 10.
The Bears shot 41.1 percent from the field (23 of 56) and made 5 of their 20 shots from beyond the arc. Coppin State made 17 of 57 shots (29.8 percent) and only 3 of 17 on 3-point attempts.
A 3-pointer by Holmes gave Morgan State its largest lead, 36-23, with 14:22 left in the game. Coppin State did not come within nine the rest of the way.
