Georgia Southern defeats Samford 66-59
STATESBORO, Ga. (AP)—Julian Allen scored 12 points and Georgia Southern rallied to defeat Samford 66-59 victory in both team’s Southern Conference opener on Saturday night.
The Eagles (3-3, 1-0) trailed 34-28 at halftime and fell behind 48-40 with 11:37 remaining.
But Samford (3-3, 0-1), which had held its last four opponents—including Ohio State—to 59 points or fewer, couldn’t stop the Eagles. Georgia Southern went on an 11-0 run to claim a 51-48 lead on a 3-pointer by Antonio Hanson with 5:57 left.
The Bulldogs went 0-for-8 from the free-throw line in the last 4:38.
Antoine Johnson added 10 points for the Eagles.
Bryan Friday and Trey Montgomery scored 16 points apiece for the Bulldogs.
Samford, which had held opponents to a shooting percentage of 38.5 percent, allowed Georgia Southern to make 26 of 60 shots from the field (43.3 percent).
