Wis.-Milwaukee tops Detroit in Horizon opener

MILWAUKEE (AP)—Tone Boyle scored 21 points and Anthony Hill 16 to lead Wisconsin-Milwaukee to a 71-62 victory over Detroit in the Horizon League opener for both teams Thursday night.

The Panthers (4-4) snapped a three-game losing streak that included losses to state rivals Wisconsin and Marquette.

For the Titans (2-4), Xavier Keeling scored 19 points, Woody Payne 17 and Donavan Foster 11.

Milwaukee outscored Detroit 12-2 to go ahead for good at 53-46 with 8:13 left to play. A 3-pointer by Deion James capped the run.

The first half ended in a 27-27 tie.

The victory gives Milwaukee a 16-15 lead in the all-time series between the schools.
