RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Eric Maynor scored 29 points to help Virginia Commonwealth defeat Western Michigan 79-62 on Thursday night.
Maynor hit 8 of 12 field goals, and Joey Rodriguez finished with a career-high 17 points for the Rams (4-3). Kirill Pishchalnikov had career highs with 15 points and 14 rebounds. The Rams shot 51 percent from the floor (26 of 51) and hit 18 of 19 free throws.
David Kool led the Broncos (2-6) with 22 points, becoming the 34th Broncos player with 1,000 career points. Flenard Whitfield and Derek Drews had 10 points each.
A 20-9 Virginia Commonwealth spurt began the second half, and the Rams’ lead was 51-30 with 14:49 remaining before the Broncos came back within six points with 5:11 left in the game. Kool scored 11 of his points during the comeback.
Maynor’s nine points in the final 4:11 helped the Rams put away the Broncos.
