Long Island U beats St. Francis, Pa. 73-58
LORETTO, Pa. (AP)—Long Island University got 17 points from Kyle Johnson and dominated the rebounding battle in a 73-58 win over St. Francis, Pa., Thursday night in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams.
The Blackbirds (2-3, 1-0) grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and scored 26 second-chance points to just eight for the Red Flash (3-5, 0-1).
Long Island’s defense also shut down St. Francis for two long stretches. The Red Flash scored just two points in a span of 9:28 in the first half, and the Blackbirds reeled off 14 straight points in building a 24-point lead in the second half.
Julian Boyd had 13 points off the bench for Long Island, which led 34-25 at the half. Jaytornah Wisseh and David Hicks had 11 apiece for the Blackbirds.
Devin Sweetney led St. Francis with 13 points. Marquis Ford had 12 and Mislav Jukic 10.
